If you know where you're going, you're not pushing hard enough

Sep 23, 2011

There’s a common expression in the world of poker that goes a little like this;

“If you aren’t getting caught bluffing, you’re not bluffing enough”.

I think this can applied to many almost any situation, but in particularly business. Business is about making decisions about the future of your company. Every day you must make decisions that could make or break your success. These decisions could be big or small, from a new hire to partnering with a technology firm. The cumulative of these decisions will often have a big impact on the success of your company.

I think they’re two approaches to making decisions at a business. Either you can make safe plays and take the easy option and or you can strive to make a real difference, to make a change and really create something that has an impact.

I think that for a large part of the time, making a real difference, and striving for the kind of huge success you have the potential for, you will not know the right decisions to make. I think, if you know where you are headed, you’re not ambitious enough.

Don’t worry about where you’re headed, nobody really knows anyway.
